Atrius Health: Ruth C. Fretts, MD, MPH, OBGYN

Dr. Fretts completed her undergraduate degree from the University of Ottawa. She then attended the University of Ottawa where she graduated with her Master’s of Arts. Furthering her education, she completed her Medical Degree from Queen’s University in 1987; giving her over three decades of experience in her field. After obtaining her medical degree she moved on to her internship with the Royal Victoria Hospital, followed by her Obstetrics & Gynecology residency with the Jewish General Hospital. Dr. Fretts’s special knowledge & skills in the medical and surgical care of the female reproductive system and associated disorders, enables her to serve as a consultant to other physicians.

Obstetrician-gynecologists (OB/GYN) are physicians who possess special knowledge, skills and professional capability in the medical and surgical care of the female reproductive system and associated disorders, enables them to serve as consultants to other physicians and as primary physicians for women. Obstetrics and gynecology is a broad and diverse branch of medicine, including surgery, management of the care of pregnant women, gynecologic care, oncology, and primary health care for women. Most OB/GYNs are generalists and see a variety of medical conditions in the office, perform surgery, and manage labor and delivery.
